beach getaway

hair ties . sunglasses . swimsuit . tote . book . coverup . sandals

Tis the season for holiday vacations and warm weather escapes. I dream of this all year long, spending days soaking up warm sunshine and splashing around in clear and sparkling sea the temperature of a bathtub. It's just what I need this time of year, a break from the cold city. This outfit is a daydream, to be worn sitting pretty on a perfect crescent shaped strip of sand lined with palms, frozen concoction in hand, book in your lap.

I love the cheerful red floral print on this Tory Burch bikini, it would look lovely with a tan and a gauzy white cover up thrown on top for ventures into beachside shops and casual restaurants for lunch. And a good book is always necessary for a trip to the beach. Though you should read this book regardless. Amy Poehler is a national treasure.

And on that note... Happy New Years Eve!

year in review

I can't believe how quickly this year has gone by! Since 2014 is coming to an end I thought it would be fun to round up some of my favorite looks that I have done so far. Since shifting the focus of this blog from free for all to personal style in the middle of May I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful, amazing people, and work with some pretty cool brands. I am so thankful to you, my dear readers for making all of this possible. I truly appreciate you taking the time to read and leave comments and though I can't always reply, I love reading each and every one and them!

bucky

The Friday before last JD and I met in the East Village to see on of our favorite improv teams, Bucky. There are three shows that stand out in my mind when I try to pick my favorite and Bucky did one of them, the shape shifting dragon monoscene. I'm not sure if there is ever a good way to describe an improv scene as they tend to sound a bit ridiculous to anyone who didn't watch them unfold, but I'll try to sum it up. Neighbors were warring over the basketball hoop in on of their driveways. The Harlem Globe Trotters made an appearance. Then the neighbors who were just trying to use the hoop turned out to be shape-shifters that closed the scene by turning into dragons. It sounds more like a dream than something I watched... and it was amazing. The two others are "meth camp" and "crocodile piano lesson".

There were no shapeshifting dragons this last time, but the show was definitely one of their best. (I say that after just about every show.) JD shouted out the word "basket" as a nod to Nicole and they did a special McManus harold where they pretended to be themselves at a pub. It was pretty good.

I kept my outfit comfortable and decided to dress up my usual uniform of a sweater and skinny pants a little bit with heeled ankle boots and a statement necklace.

Happy Monday and thank you so much for reading!

the prosecco classic

In honor of the holidays I thought a champagne/prosecco cocktail would be nice, especially with New Years coming up. It's no secret how I feel about sparkling wine, I mean, I call this blog Prosecco in the Park.

Usually, when I have champagne or prosecco it's on it's own or in the form of a French 75 or mimosa, but I'm always interested in trying new things. When I came across a recipe for the champagne classic I just couldn't resist. As JD and I have been drinking Old Fashioneds like they're going out of style we have plenty of Angostura bitters on hand and I liked that this is basically the bubbly version of it.

This cocktail is very easy to make and a perfect drink to serve at breakfast or a holiday party.
THE PROSECCO CLASSIC
1 sugar cube or 1 teaspoon
a dash of Angostura bitters
4 oz champagne

Place the sugar cube in a champagne flute and add a few drops of Angostura bitters. Let soak and slowly top with champagne.
The recipe typically calls for a sugar cube but a teaspoon of sugar will work just as well if you don't have any or hand or don't feel like running out to the store. The sugar doesn’t dissolve so you get a slight sweetness with a nice kick from the bitters.

Happy Boxing Day!

maybe its much too early in the game...

First things first, Happy Christmas Eve! I'm going to be around a little less the rest of this week and next as I'll have limited internet access, but I have some posts lined up to keep things moving. If all goes as planned we should be in for a good time so feel free to follow along as we go on this whacky adventure via instagram @proseccointhepark

I love New Years Eve. Growing up it was always my favorite holiday, aside from the Fourth of July. Come to think of it, I may just have a thing for fireworks. Regardless, there is something so exciting and magical about it. We have rung in last several years with family and friends in Tortola, a pretty little island in the British Virgin Islands, complicating my love affair with sparkly things. Sand and sequins don't mix well and it's too hot to wear anything heavy.

This dress is light but interesting with sheer paneling at the top and a little bit of shine in the fabric. It would definitely be appropriate to wear on a warm weather getaway. Plus it's affordable and can be worn straight through the rest of the year. I'd pair it with sparkly heels, a beaded clutch, statement bracelet, and maybe a fun head piece for a glamorous 1920s feel.

What are you planning to wear for New Years?

Every time the weather gets cold I crave a visit to Elephant and Castle for a soup bowl of hot chocolate and apples and eggs benedict. It's become sort of a winter tradition, a place I have such fond memories of. And so all week long I had been looking forward to brunch on Saturday. JD and I knew our order before we even sat down.

This past Saturday I wore my favorite over the knee boots with burgundy pants and a cream sweater for a cozy and casual brunch with JD. To top things off, it began lightly snowing as we stopped to snap these shots on our walk over.

When I put this on the other day JD said, and I quote "that's a really bloggy outfit", which is a nice break from "you may as well be wearing a sleeveless snuggy." I can't say that I disagree but you know what, I like it. I like wearing warm, blanket like things, who doesn't? Especially now with the wild popularity of blanket scarves.

I have had this Camilyn Beth number hanging in my closet for a few years now. It's one of those things you can wear year round and I really love that about it. It's perfectly appropriate for snuggling up by the fireplace with a cup of cocoa in your lap as well as watching the summer sun set on a breezy beach. For a wintery outing I paired it with a long black tee, pants to match, and my favorite riding boots.

Happy Monday and thank you so much for reading!

holiday party

I have had my eye on this romper for quite a while but have held out for a couple of reasons, mostly because I don't care for the process of having to get in and out of them should you need to use the restroom. It can't be just me that has that much trouble with them, right? Maybe it's because I'm lazy, less talented at using public toilets, or missing a crucial piece of information that would make the whole process a cake walk, but it always ends up feeling too time consuming for me to want to deal with. Last Saturday when getting dressed for our friends' holiday party, I came up with this very similar look with more champagne friendly pieces. I have worn this silky Joie top and Maje skirt adorned with velvet polka dots many times before in various different ways but never thought to combine them. I must say I was quite pleased with the way it turned out and will probably be wearing this again for our Christmas Eve party or at the very least an upcoming date night.

Thank you so much for reading and have a wonderful Thursday!

last minute gift guide

This year I'm feeling super behind when it comes to gift buying. As much as I love the hunt, it can definitely be challenging to find that perfect thing. So, since it's Wednesday and this week marks "the last days of holiday shipping" I rounded up a couple of last minute gift ideas that should cover just about everyone on your list, and mine.

red heels

There is just something about the color red that draws you in. You know, those bright and cheery shades that make you think of summer or the holidays. I can't get enough of it this time of year and I certainly can't resist a pretty pair of red heels, especially if they have bows on them. I'm currently in that honeymoon phase (before I'm left with the inevitable emotionally scaring blisters) where I'm planning outfits around them. Over the weekend I paired them with a relaxed white sweater and skinny jeansI love dressing jeans up with a cute pair of heels for a fun yet still appropriate daytime look and these were perfect for adding a festive, holiday feel.
