Last week while waiting for JD to meet me at the train for our weekly visit to David's Tea (it's getting bad, they all know me there), I popped into a liquor store to pick up some whisky since we were fresh out. After much deliberation I settled on a bottle of Rough Rider rye because it is from Bating Hollow and I am a nerd. We both really like it. I would definitely recommend giving it a try if you happen across a bottle. And so we have been using it to experiment with cocktails. This week's was JD's idea. It is sour and strong but has a sweet finish. My instinct is to top it with champagne or prosecco and serve it with breakfast but that's an experiment for another day.

RYE GRAPEFRUIT WHISKY SOUR
2 oz hot water
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp sugar
1 oz grapefruit juice
2 oz rye whisky

In a shaker, dissolve sugar and honey in hot water. Let cool and add grapefruit juice. Add ice and whisky and shake. Strain into a glass and garnish with a lemon wedge if so desired.

  1. Looks so good! I don't have rye whiskey just good ole jack Daniels, anyway does rye make much difference in the recipes? Regardless, can't wait to try it, I look forward to Friday's and a new cocktail recipe!

  4. Oh my word... so many things. Where do I start!?

    1. David's Tea. I'm obsessed. "Yes We Cran" is my favorite.
    2. Topping any cocktail with bubbly to make it breakfast appropriate: this is my favorite tip since the beginning of tips.
    3. Can you move to SF so we can have cocktail hour together? Like real cocktail hour from the 50's in full skirts?

    Happy weekend!
