raspberry rye smash

The other day I met up with with Kate from Taffeta and Tulips for drinks at the Bryant Park Hotel. I was quickly drawn to a drink on their menu called the "Nile" that included whiskey, orange marmalade, and a mint liqueur topped with apple cider. I loved the idea of using marmalade in a cocktail and wanted to try it myself. I thought a smash would be a good compromise. I swapped the marmalade for raspberry jam, added a bit of orange juice, and topped with soda water. This drink had a similar feel to the blackberry bourbon lemonade from a couple of months ago but tasted a little more like a pie. I don't know what it is with me and pie flavored cocktails lately. Maybe it's the season.

RASPBERRY RYE SMASH
1.5 oz rye whisky
1 oz raspberry jam / preserves
1.5 oz orange juice
2 oz soda water

In a large glass or shaker mix rye, jam, orange juice, and soda water with ice. Serve and enjoy!
Cheers to the weekend!

  9. I would have never ever in my wildest dreams have thought to put jam in a cocktail. You see, this is why I need your blog in my life. This sounds heavenly- *especially* if it kind of tastes like a pie. Just like you, I'm all about those apple/pumpkin pie flavors. Also, you should move to Chicago so we can have fancy pants drinks together ;)
