Since it's officially autumn, I'm celebrating the change of season with one of my favorite fall flavors, maple! I know it's technically not exclusive to the season as we enjoy waffles and pancakes year round, but maple syrup reminds me of cooler weather for a couple of reasons. One being the fact that the minute the leaves change I start craving a maple latte from Gorilla Coffee in Park Slope. Two, eating maple candies and stocking up on syrup on Vermont ski trips. And three, the disturbing image of Will Ferrell dousing his spaghetti with the stuff in Elf. Yes, I realize the last two are winter things. Moving on... I wanted to see what else it could be added to that would be less disgusting and in the form of a cocktail. That's when I came across the recipe for a "maple leaf". With all of the ingredients on hand it was a done deal.
1 1/2 oz bourbon
1/2 oz maple syrup
1/2 oz lemon juice
Shake with ice, serve and enjoy!
This drink tastes a shocking amount like apple cider and nothing like bourbon. You could down the whole thing without thinking about it. I think I've found a new seasonal favorite. This would be great to serve at Thanksgiving, or Halloween, or any autumn or winter holiday. I will definitely be making this again, most likely with the addition of a cinnamon stick.
Happy Friday and thank you so much for reading!

Oh yum! What a great recipe. I actually tapped maple trees throughout our farm last year, I didn't get to much, but it was so fun. This would be a perfect recipe to use it in on a cold winters eve;)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds delicious! It's almost hot toddy season too, which I am really looking forward to! I love a good hot toddy.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you ski in VT? I'm a northern New Englander and definitely looking forward to ski season :) We had a great year for snow last year, crossing my fingers for another.
Ah I cannot wait to make my first hot toddy of the season! I usually head up to Mount Snow or Killington.
DeleteNice! We skied Burke and Jay quite a bit last season. If you haven't, make a trip to Mad River Glen. It's a little further north, but worth it :) Skiers only and an old single chair lift.
Deletei love maple too! you always have the most unique drink recipes, and you've mentioned that maple latte before, i really need to try it when i get to nyc this time!
ReplyDeletei have not taken this but i feel its going to taste great.
