shoulders back, lemon

olive pants + cream top
dogeared elephant necklace
mulberry alexa + olive pants
olive pants + cream top

Posing for blog photos can be really awkward, especially when you're standing on a busy-ish street and you feel embarrassed enough to stop and "look over the photos" every time someone walks by. That feeling of embarrassment leads to weird poses that my handsome photographer JD thankfully is not afraid to point out / make fun of. (i.e. "what are you doing with your face?") We took these on our walk home from brunch on Saturday and why yes, we brought the big camera and flash with us. It wasn't weird. It was cool and overcast and I was more excited than any normal person should be to wear pants during the day, at the end of August, without melting into the sidewalk. After reviewing the "test - there's someone coming - shot" I noticed how awkward my posture was so I straightened myself out and thought of Jack whispering to Lemon as she exited the elevator in that episode when he was trying not to mentor her. "Shoulders back, Lemon. You're not welcoming people to Castle Frankenstein."

These pants have been in steady rotation for the last two or so years. They are the most comfortable pair I own and I could kick myself for not buying them in every single color available when I scooped them up during one of ShopBop's legendary sales. For a cool late August brunch I paired them with a cream colored top with lace paneling at the shoulders, a detail you can't really see in these photos, and my trusty Rag & Bone boots.

And if you have one, please share your favorite 30 Rock quote. This could be fun.

  8. You look so city chic here- I love it!
And I totally feel you re: taking pictures in public. Had to do a shoot on vacation and we ended up near the pool to get the right light/good background, and I felt SO BLOODY AWKWARD with a table of teenage girls just gawking at me the whole time. They thought I was crazy, fo'sho. :)

  15. So true! Posing for pics in public can be totally awkward! I find that I relax more when we're in a not so crowded spot...the beach, the park, etc. And my husband teases me as well! Guess it's a small price to pay to do what you love! I love these pants! The perfect color for transitioning into Fall and besides, they look very comfortable!

  16. Love this look! I've been wanting that Dogeared necklace for awhile, it's SO cute! I'm obsessed with Dogeared! And yes, posing for pictures in public is SO awkward! I usually just take a whole bunch of pictures really fast and then try to review them later and hope some turn out LOL!

  22. Cute pants! I can see why you like them. My favorite 30 Rock quote is one by Tracy Morgan: "I love my wife... but most importantly, I want to do NOTHING!"

  23. I constantly tell my hubby / photographer that I'd make a shitty model, even if I was 5'11" instead of 5'4". I'm just too awkward in front of the camera. It's awful!

P.S. That Mulberry bag is major.

  26. I am so impressed with how composed and lovely you look in your photos. I blush far too easily to deal with the on-the-street, in-front-of-strangers situation.

    You look stunning!
