Bossypants

Prior to leaving for Tortola I pulled a copy of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice
from my bookshelf and put it on the floor next to my open suitcase.
On Thursday morning when I zipped it shut the book still hadn't made it inside.
I realized this in the car on the way to the airport. I was out of luck.
Once we had arrived at our villa I noticed a copy of Tina Fey's Bossypants sitting
on the table. My mother had bought it in the airport for when she finished the
book she had been reading (it's called The Shack and left her in tears - not exactly
an ideal beach read incase you are thinking to take that one on vacation with you).
Since no one was reading it (we're taking about Bossypants now)
I flipped it open to a random page to see if I'd like it. That's a test of mine.
If I'm unsure of a book, whether I'll like it or not, I like to flip to a
random page somewhere towards the middle and read a couple of paragraphs to get a
feel of the writing and if it will hold my attention. This test has yet to fail.
The page I landed on featured a picture of a young Tina with quite the haircut.
She gave mock beauty tips on hairstyling and within seconds I was cracking up.

The book is told in the wonderfully hilarious voice that Tina is so well known for.
Getting caught up in this book is too easy, an experience similar to watching an entire season of 30 Rock before you realize that you have just spent the last 8 hours sitting infront of your tv. She cracks jokes as she outlines how she came to be who she is today.

Is it bad that I relate to the chapter titled What Turning Forty Means to Me? A chapter in which she writes only one sentence detailing the need to take off her pants the second she enters her home. I've been doing that for years. I don't know why, but I'm thilled to discover that it's just a side effect of aging. Thanks, Tina!

If you haven't read this book yet, it comes highly recommended.

Have you read Bossypants? What did you think and what was your favorite part?
